“Oil, Markets, and the Media”
Wednesday, May 10, 2006, 9:30 to 11:00 a.m.
National Press Club – First Amendment Lounge
529 14th Street, NW 13th Floor, Washington, D.C.

While news of rising oil and gas prices has taken a prominent
stage, the root causes behind higher energy prices have proven a
difficult challenge for reporters and editors. The problem of higher
prices gives rise to many questions: What are the reasons for high
oil and gas prices? Does industry have any possible solutions? Is
there any legislative relief in sight? What are some things
journalists should consider when reporting on the topic?
Answering these questions will be Dan Gainor, Director of the
Business & Media Institute, Rep. Jack Kingston (R-GA), Vice
Chairman, House Republican Conference, Bob Slaughter, President of
the National Petrochemical & Refiners Association, and Jerry Taylor,
Senior Fellow at the Cato Institute. In an hour-and-a-half
discussion moderated by Quin Hillyer, Executive Editor of the
American Spectator, these four experts will shed light on some often
overlooked facts behind the energy crunch.
